On May 25th, 2014 I had the opportunity to tour the cottages of Humber College's Lakeshore campus. The cottages were
originally built as a Psychiatric Hospital in the late 1800's, and continued to operate as such before closing in 1979 as
the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital.
Humber College signed a 99 year leasing in the 1990's
for the site and has converted all but one of the buildings (called cottages by both the hospital and college.) This
also includes a new building (Building L) in the middle.
The tour, as part of Doors Open Toronto,
allowed people to access the tunnels that form part of the site. These tunnels are not normally open to the public,
and were originally used to move patients and staff between each cottage.
