The Universal Life Church (ULC) was started in 1959 by the late Rev. Kirby Hensley who believed freedom of religion and
that everyone was a minister themselves. As such, he believed no one should be denied ordaination.
Out of the Rev. Hensley's idea, the ULC now has ministers from all over the world, and from various walks of life and
spiritual backgrounds.
The ministers' common thread is their adherence to the universal doctrine of religious freedom:
"Do only that which is right".
Every single person has the right, and the responsibility, to determine
- peacefully - what is right. The ULC strongly advocates religious freedom.
The ULC is here for everyone - no matter your walk of life or spiritual background.
The current head of the Universal Life Church is Andre Hensley, the son of Kirby. Andre succeeded his mother (who
was the Church's head after Kiby's death) in early 2007.
